How to have a healthier New Year 2022

Around the world, the New Year is celebrated in different ways, and even on different dates. However, its meaning of a new beginning, of “having a clean slate,” or of being spiritually reborn is the same for everyone. It is about setting and meeting new goals, making changes, or trying something new. These life modifications are ‘resolutions.’

The ideal resolution for 2022

Don’t have your New Year’s resolutions yet? We give you an idea: Seek to have a healthier year. This will impact you positively and it is relatively easy to fulfill.

Here are some small but significant changes to set you on the path to a healthy body and mind.

1. Eat better

Eat the rainbow

To eat better, use a meal plan that includes the food groups. To eat a variety of food and stock up with essential vitamins and minerals, fill your plate with colors.

Follow the guidelines

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recommends:

  • Consuming more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, milk, and fat-free or reduced fat dairy products.
  • Integrating a variety of foods with protein such as seafood, lean meats, eggs, legumes (beans and peas), soy products, nuts and seeds.
  • Consuming little saturated fats, trans fat, cholesterol, salt (sodium), and added sugars.

Cook more at home

Homemade food is usually healthier, as it is cooked with ingredients low in fat and sodium. Unlike in restaurants, at home, we can make healthy choices as to what we integrate into the pan. We can even make it taste the same or better than the restaurant food.

Plan and evaluate your selections

If you do not know where to start, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has information and tools to help you monitor your meals.

2. Exercise

A sedentary lifestyle can be as harmful as a cigarette. As long as you do not have a health condition that prevents you from doing so, exercising has many benefits.

If you feel like you do not have much time to visit a gym, you can use an app that shared exercise routines for all ages and fitness goals. These apps are great for integrating an exercise routine at your convenience. Try doing some of your weekly exercises outside. This will help you connect with nature and clear your mind.

3. Eliminate vices

What may make you feel good for a few minutes, can hurt you a lot in the future. If you still do so, we encourage you to stop smoking. You should also limit alcoholic beverages. In disease prevention, these two are great detractors.

4. Sleep and truly rest

Sleep is extremely important for your health. It influences the immune system, hormones, appetite, weight, thoughts, energy, concentration, temperament, and mood. It even influences life expectancy.

Some tips for sleeping well are:

· Listen to a guided meditation to help you sleep better.

· Take a warm bath to relax your muscles.

· Create a dark environment, with adequate temperature and silence, in your room.

· Leave digital screens outside the room and do not use them before sleeping.

5. Drink more water

Water benefits your mental state, the health of your kidneys, your physical performance, and your digestive system. We advise you to drink more water, and also to invest in a reusable bottle with measurements, that you can take everywhere. Determine, according to your weight, how much water is recommended for you to ingest daily. Motivate yourself to finish all the water every day.
